Having no trailer to go off of, my brain went wild thinking how the madly innovative Demetri Martin’s comic drama would convert into a film. Unfortunately, a great deal was lost in that translation.The best some portion of Dean is its utilization of Martin’s trademark doodles, which go with the film’s scenes in split screens. They feel crisp and were the redeeming quality when the film began with a stereotypical father and child by a grave that made me stressed. The greatest frustration is the film’s ceaseless come back to antique, particularly in the last demonstration which plays out as a ponderous show with little comic drama. The best thing about Demetri Martin’s parody is that his jokes are exhibited, the crowd gets them, then he moves onto the following joke. In this film there is a great deal of superfluous waiting done.
